Bankruptcy doesn't have to be difficult or dishonorable

For many people facing serious debt problems, the last thing they want to do is take on a complicated legal process like filing for bankruptcy. But the truth is that, with the right lawyer on your side, filing for bankruptcy doesn't have to be stressful.

At this point, you may not understand how bankruptcy works or even what it is. You may be assuming that it's something bad or that it comes with negative consequences. Your lawyer can explain exactly how the bankruptcy process works, how to qualify and any consequences that could apply.

Bankruptcy is not admitting failure or "taking the easy way out." It is a perfectly respectable process that was created by our country's founders as a way for people who have encountered hard times to start fresh.

As a bankruptcy law firm that has helped hundreds of Louisiana residents start a new chapter in their lives, we know that people often get into serious debt due to factors out of their control such as a serious illness or addiction, a death in the family or a divorce.

Bankruptcy: What to expect

If you have been through hard times in recent years that have caused you to take on debt that you cannot pay back, you should know that the bankruptcy process doesn't have to be difficult and it is not something to be ashamed of.

Here is a quick overview of what you can expect from the bankruptcy process after calling our firm for help:

  1. You will come into our office for a free consultation, where our attorneys will review your financial information and help you decide if bankruptcy would be a good option.
  2. If you decide to go through the bankruptcy process and have chosen which type of bankruptcy is right for you, your lawyer will help you file online to start your case.
  3. About a month or two after you file for bankruptcy, your lawyer will come with you to meet with your "trustee," who has been appointed to your case by the court.
  4. Approximately 30 to 90 days later, your debt will be wiped clean if you filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, or your repayment plan will be put into action if you filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
  5. You can go on with your life without the stress of being overwhelmed by debt.
