Whether you want to eliminate credit card debt or prevent foreclosure by coming up with a payment plan you can afford, it is important to know what to expect from the process. If you decide to file for bankruptcy with us, one of our lawyers will take you through the following steps:

  • Consultation: When you come to your free initial consultation with relevant financial information, our attorneys can review your case and help you decide if bankruptcy is right for you.
  • Filing: Once you have decided which type of consumer bankruptcy case you want to pursue, we can help you file online very quickly. If we have access to all necessary information, and you have your credit counseling certificate, it can even be done at your initial consultation. (Visit our main bankruptcy page for a list of documents you should bring along.)
  • Meeting: Twenty to forty days after your file, you will have a meeting with your court-appointed trustee. We will be there with you to make sure your rights are protected. Your creditors may also attend, but in most cases, they will not.
  • Chapter 7 discharge or Chapter 13 plan confirmation: Within 30 to 90 days of the meeting with your trustee, your Chapter 13 plan will be confirmed and put into action. If you filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, your debt will be wiped clean.

If you file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you will begin making monthly plan payments 30 days after we file your case.
